The countdown is on for the inspiHER Girls Leadership Retreat taking place at the University of Rio Grande on March 18th.

Below is important information that parents and participants need to know prior to attending the retreat.

Where will the retreat be held?

The retreat will be held in the Lyne Center at the University of Rio Grande located at 218 N. College Avenue, Rio Grande, Ohio.

What time does the retreat start and end?

The doors will open for registration between 8:00 am - 8:25 am in the lower gym of the Lyne Center. The retreat will start promptly at 8:30am and end at 3:30pm.

Where do I drop off & pick up my child?

Individuals dropping off girls for the retreat MUST accompany each participant to the lower gym in the Lyne Center to sign in at the registration tables.

At pick-up, parents and/or designated individuals listed on the registration form MUST return to the lower gym in the Lyne Center to sign out participants.

Do I need to stay with my child during the retreat?

  • No, parents/guardians will not stay with their child during the retreat.

  • Parents/guardians are invited to attend one or both of our parent sessions taking place in the Wood Hall, adjacent to the Lyne Center

  • For the safety of all participants, we cannot allow unsupervised/unapproved adults to stay in the Lyne Center during the retreat.

Is food provided to participants during the event?

Yes, a light breakfast (ex: breakfast bars, fruit, etc.), a boxed lunch, and snacks will be available to all participants. If your child has food allergies, we recommend they bring snacks that are safe for their particular allergy and/or dietary restriction.

What should my child bring to the retreat?

Participants do not need to bring anything specific to the event. We will provide a bag, paper, pen, and other gifts. Please do not send a backpack or other large items with your child, as space is limited at the group tables.

How should my child be dressed for the retreat?

  • Please send your child in comfortable clothes and have them dress in layers. Each participant will receive an inspiHER t-shirt at registration that they can put on prior to the start of the opening ceremony.

  • Participants may wish to wear an undershirt or long-sleeved t-shirt under their event t-shirt.

  • Their “home base” for the day will be their team table group located in the lower gym.  Participants typically wear leggings, active wear (yoga pants, sweats, sweatshirts) and other comfortable type clothes.

  • Break-out sessions will include yoga, self-defense and other types of physical activity. Your child should wear whatever makes them most comfortable.

Special Arrangements / Accommodations

Can I request for my child to be partnered with a friend(s) at their table group?

  • As part of our mission, we aim to help your child gain the skills to take on challenges in their life, as well as embrace their strengths and differences from other children. At the retreat, the girls have the wonderful opportunity to meet and interact with new and unique people. Our hope is that they can make new friends and see things from a new perspective. For this reason, your child may be placed in a table group with future friends rather than girls from the school that she attends.

  • It is normal for the girls to feel a bit apprehensive at first, but rest assured that as soon as they are introduced to their table group, the mentor will make them feel welcome and safe. We have witnessed dozens of new friendships blossom at the event and are confident that your child will leave feeling grateful that they were given this opportunity to move a bit outside their comfort zone.
